Gabrielle is a 14-year-old girl living in Jamaica with her mother, Grace, and her mother’s boyfriend, Johnny. Her parents have been separated for some time, and she has no contact with her father. When Johnny moved in five months ago, he seemed to bring support and stability to their lives. He helps pay the bills and buys Gabrielle’s school supplies, and Grace is grateful to have someone she can depend on.

But Gabrielle is beginning to feel uncomfortable.

Grace works as a waitress at a hotel and is out most evenings. Johnny has been taking Gabrielle out and buying her gifts, but lately his attention has started to feel different. He singles her out for special treatment and says things that make her uneasy, especially when he has been drinking. What does he expect from her? Is she wrong to feel uncomfortable? By accepting his gifts, has she somehow made this her fault?

This serious game explores gender-based violence through Gabrielle’s story, examining how grooming and abuse can develop within relationships of trust. Follow Gabrielle as she tries to make sense of Johnny’s behaviour and the feelings of confusion, fear and self-blame it creates. Help her navigate this difficult time while exploring how her experiences affect her and the people around her.
